CAMBRIDGE — This past week local kids and leaders from the Cambridge Salvation Army spent time picking up trash that had accumulated over the winter at one of their favorite spots, the playground and beach at Sailwinds Visitor Center. It was an act of local kindness I originally saw on Facebook. I thought this was a very commendable thing for these young people to do. I contacted Lt. Aaron Abram, corps officer at The Salvation Army, and he shared this statement with me: “We have been trying for three weeks to do this project after one of our leaders, Rebecca-Munshower Giles, made us aware of the amount of trash and debris around the park. It has rained every Tuesday since and we have had to postpone it. “It was very fitting that we were able to do the cleanup the day before Earth Day. The kids from the church play on the playground at Sailwinds often, and even swim there in the summer. We were shocked by some of what we found, but we know it is important to keep the area clean for everyone to have a safe place to play. It was our pleasure to do our part, and we hope that others will be more aware of the need to keep our town beautiful. Together we can all help Cambridge shine!” I would like to thank everyone who participated in this cleanup, your efforts do not go unnoticed and are very much appreciated; and the park looks great. As a citizen of Dorchester and someone who travels all over the county I realize what a wonderful place we are blessed with, and when people offer random acts of kindness we should appreciate it and recognize those involved.
