‘SCAM ALERT’
It has been recently reported to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office that a number of local businesses in Dorchester County have received correspondence from unknown entities in reference to large amounts of U.S. currency which they could obtain through paying nominal amounts of money (processing fees). These correspondences have been received via fax, email, social media, and phone calls.
We urge the citizens and businesses of Dorchester County to exercise extreme caution if you have received or been contacted with such Theft Schemes. Be advised that this is a “SCAM”.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office urges you to report any and all instances if you have been involved or received communications of this sort.

Drug possession
HURLOCK — During the early morning hours of Jan. 27, 2019 a deputy from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol in the area of Quail Run Road, near Hurlock when he came upon a 2007 Chevrolet pick-up truck parked in the traveled portion of the road.
The deputy approached the truck and was advised by the operator that he was lost. The deputy was provided with a false name by the operator. When the deputy went to the passenger side of the vehicle he observed a purple bag with drug paraphernalia inside of it. A further search revealed, syringes, crystal methamphetamine, liquid methamphetamine and methadone.
The operator of the vehicle Daniel James Lednum, 28, of no fixed address was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and hindering an officer in his duties.
The passenger Julie Nicole McCumbie, 24, of 17985 Zion Road, Marydel, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, and possession of paraphernalia. They were both held pending action by the District Court.

Assault Arrest
TRAPPE — On Jan. 28, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office arrested Patrick Allen Miller, 36 of Trappe,. Deputies were called to the 29000 block of Maple Avenue, Trappe, for an assault.
Information obtained from the victim revealed Miller had come to the residence of his mother and step-father, where he assaulted the step-father and took his truck without permission.
A lookout was given to surrounding police agencies for Miller and the vehicle. Officers from the Easton Police Department located the vehicle and took Miller into custody. Miller was charged with assault and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Miller was taken to Talbot County Central Booking for processing and was ordered held at the Talbot County Detention Center on a $3,000 bond.

Marijuana Arrest
FEDERALSBURG — On Feb. 4, 2019, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office stopped a motor vehicle on Ocean Gateway near Matthewstown Road for a moving violation. Deputies identified the driver as Drequan Kayuantae Watson, 25 of Federalsburg.
Deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle and discovered marijuana and paraphernalia. Watson was issued a criminal citation charging him with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Watson was released upon his signature.

CDS Arrest
EASTON — On February 7, 2019, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office stopped a motor vehicle on Black Dog Alley near Dover Road for moving violations. Deputies identified the driver as Sara Ann Lafave, 30, of Hurlock.
Deputies performed a K-9 scan of the vehicle resulting in a positive alert for the presence of a controlled substance, and a probable cause search was conducted. Deputies located heroin capsules hidden in a cigarette pack and placed Lafave under arrest.
Lafave was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license and other traffic violations. Lafave was taken to Central Booking for processing and booking. Lafave was released by a District Court Commissioner on her personal recognizance.

Fire under investigation
CAMBRIDGE — At 1:26 a.m. on Feb. 8, 30 firefighters from Rescue Fire Company responded to a fire at 811 Race St. The 20 foot by 20 foot wood frame residential outbuilding is owned by Tom Bradley.
Discovered by a neighbor, the fire originated in the interior and an estimated loss of $10,000 to the structure and $1,000 to contents. The fire is under investigation.

Boat fire
FISHING CREEK — At 4:50 a.m. on Feb. 5, Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Department firefighters responded to a fire in the interior cabin of a 35 foot work boat owned by John Parks.
The estimated damage to the boat was $40,000 and $500 to contents. Discovered by a neighbor the fire is under investigation.
