Police respond to report
of possible grenade
HURLOCK — Maryland State Police responded to the scene of a possible grenade outside of a vacant home in Dorchester County March 15.
At approximately 2:45 p.m. Friday afternoon, troopers from the Easton Barrack responded to a vacant home in the 4700 block of Skeet Club Road in Hurlock after receiving a 9-1-1 call reporting the presence of a possible grenade near the home. The emergency phone call came from a home inspector working an inspection on the vacant residence. The item that appeared to be the possible grenade was found near the carport of the home.

State police immediately closed the roadway and secured a perimeter around the house. Nearby residences were evacuated and a reverse 9-1-1 call was implemented to alert citizens to remain inside their homes. The Maryland State Board of Education along with Delmarva Power were notified of the incident.

A bomb technician from the Office of the State Fire Marshal also responded to the scene and conducted diagnostic testing. It was determined the possible grenade was inactive and made of a plastic material, like that of a toy. Subsequently, a second reverse 9-1-1 call was made around 4 p.m. to alert citizens the incident had ended and that no one in the area was in any danger.

Wanted in Florida
CAMBRIDGE — On Feb. 28, members of the Capitol Area Fugitive Task Force which has a member from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office on it arrested Joseph Elie Brinson, 38 of 505 Robbins St. in Cambridge. He was wanted by the State of Florida on the charges of the sale of molly within 1,000 feet of public housing, felony battery, domestic battery by strangulation and false imprisonment.
He was ordered held without Bond awaiting Extradition to Florida.

Breaking & Entering
EAST NEW MARKET — On March 15, members of the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police responded to a reported Breaking & Entering in progress at 4228 East New Market, Hurlock Road.

The suspect fled prior to the arrival of Deputies but was caught traveling on Linkwood Road by a responding Trooper. Charles Trevor Washburn was arrested and charged with third degree attempted burglary, fourth degree attempted burglary, trespassing on private property, malicious destruction of property under $1,000.00 and reckless endangerment. He was ordered held without bond.

Mobile home fire
RHODESDALE — At 8:30 a.m. March 15, firefighters from the Eldorado-Brookview Fire Department responded to a fire at 6403 Cardinal Ave.
The 14’ x 70’ wood frame mobile home owned by Michael and Emile Hyde had an estimated loss of $30,000to structure and $10,000 to contents.
The fire originated in the kitchen and was discovered by the occupant.
The preliminary cause is under investigation.

Storage building blaze
HURLOCK — Firefighters from the Hurlock Fire Department responded at 12:35 a.m. on Marach 17 to 6548 Palmers Mill Road for a fire in an 18’ x 24’ wood frame storage building.
Discovered by a passerby the building is owned by Mark Saulsbury.
Estimated loss to structure is $20,000 and $200,000 to contents.
The fire originated in the interior and the preliminary cause is under investigation.

Sexual Offense Arrest
TRAPPE — On March 7, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4000 block of Ocean Gateway, Trappe, for a reported sexual abuse of two juvenile females who reported a 15-year-old juvenile forced them to have sexual intercourse over the course of the past two years.

The 15-year-old juvenile was interviewed by investigators and admitted his involvement in the allegations. The 15-year-old juvenile has been referred to the Department of Juvenile Services on charges of second degree rape, third degree sex offense and assault.

CDS Arrest
TRAPPE — On March 10, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office stopped a motor vehicle on Old Trappe Road near Ocean Gateway for a moving violation. Deputies identified the driver as Eldridge Dewayne Baynard, 53 of Federalsburg, and the passenger as Katherine Rose Adkins, 23 of Denton.

Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Fred conducted an open air exterior sniff of the vehicle and positively alerted to the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle resulted in locating heroin, cocaine, syringes and other drug paraphernalia.

Baynard and Adkins were placed under arrest and taken to the Talbot County Central Booking Unit, being charged with possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.

Both subjects were seen by a District Court Commissioner and were released on their personal recognizance.
