CAMBRIDGE — Cambridge Woman’s Club is busy preparing for their thirtieth Annual Holiday Tour. This year’s tour promises to feature an exciting group of homes with beautiful charm and splendid decorations. The homes will be open to visitors on Dec. 14, from 1:30 -4:30 p.m. This year, much to our delight, St Paul’s United Methodist Church will hold a special music performance during the same hours. All guests are invited to attend and be inspired by music of the season.

Four homes will be included in this year’s outing, all located in the downtown Cambridge area. The Phillips and Butcher Families are located on Riverside Drive, the Hull Family on Hambrooks Blvd., and the White Family on Maryland Avenue will be graciously opening their homes for our enjoyment. This year promises to be both convenient and lovely.

As always, Cambridge Woman’s Club will be serving delicious homemade cookies and wassail at the Sycamore College for all to enjoy. Tickets can be purchased for a $10 donation in advance of the tour date or for a $12 donation the day of the tour, at The Dorchester Center for the Arts (410) 228-7782).

Albert Phillips’ Home

In 1998 Albert Phillips and his wife purchased a brick home situated on the beautiful Choptank River. This rancher, built in the early 1950s takes full advantage of its position on the river. Sunrises and sunsets command pre-eminence from the numerous large windows located in each room situated on the Northwest side of the home. The vista provides ever-changing seascapes daily from the pleasure boats just passing on their journey to local Eastern Shore destinations, to the journey of the paddle wheelers of Suicide Bridge on their way to and from Sailwinds on either angry or gentle waves of the Choptank. With knowledge of the area one can locate Oxford on the far shore.

Riverside Drive divides a portion of the 1 ¾ acre tract of land giving access to steps descending to a pier and the beckoning water. The couple and their seven children, 15 grandchildren treasure time spent enjoying the pleasures of boating and water activities.

The home features three bedrooms, two office spaces, and a sunporch. A large addition to the rear of the house affords a spacious master suite dominated by a generous sized stained glass window. This window is replicated in the adjoining bath. A door from the bedroom opens to a small sitting area and atrium for privacy and is decorated following the traditions of Al’s Middle East heritage.

Christmas is presented throughout the home in the décor. Al’s daughter-in-law, Patty has devoted her professional skills as a florist/decorator to enhance the Christmas season. The Phillips family welcomes you to share with them the blessings of this special time of year.
