CAMBRIDGE - Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Jan. 30 that left one man dead and one woman injured.

A statement from the Cambridge Police Department said that at 2:40 p.m., officers responded to 803 Wood Duck Court in Cattail Crossing, where they found 34-year-old Sharod Ileak Mack of Cambridge, dead from a gunshot wound. A female victim was also found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The female victim was not identified in the police report. Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 7 was in the air at 3:25 p.m., transporting the woman to Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for emergency treatment. She was in critical condition.

A candlelight vigil was held on Center Street in Cambridge on Jan. 31 to honor the life of Mr. Mack. “Sharod’s memories will be carried in our hearts forever,” a statement from organizers said.

Cambridge resident and business owner Sergio Martinez Sr. was one of those who attended the event.

“It’s crazy, we were in elementary school together in New York City,” Mr. Martinez remembered. “We lost contact for years.”

After moving to Cambridge, Mr. Martinez met an old friend who told him Mr. Mack was in the area. After they were reunited, they found their friendship was as strong as ever.

“You always came through and made sure I was good, always crashed my barbecues,” Mr. Martinez said. “I will never forget the bond we had for more than 20 years, from NYC to Maryland. My brother, you will always and forever be in my heart. Rest in paradise, Rod Mack.”
