CAMBRIDGE — December at Main Street Gallery in Cambridge is all about giving! All month long there will be a basket in the gallery to collect donations of non-perishable food items or cash. The donations will be presented to the Anchor Point Food Bank in Cambridge which will distribute them to those in need in the city.

Also, the member artists and their guests, a total of 34 artists in all, will be offering up an exciting holiday collection of original artworks made especially for gift giving. Come to the artists reception on Second Saturday Dec. 13 from 5-9 p.m. and enjoy a glass of cheer and light hors d’oeuvres while eyeing the artists’ new creations.

You’ll see  paintings, drawings, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, photographs, woven, hand-knitted and wooden works in styles that range from traditional to avant-garde to purely whimsical and  at prices that will appeal to holiday shoppers. If you just can’t decide on the perfect gift, you can also pick up a Main St. Gallery gift certificate.

And for those late Santas, there will be a “Guy’s Night” at the gallery from 5-9 p.m. on Dec. 23. Enjoy a beer, chips and salsa while you shop for that special someone. Expert staff will be on hand to help you with your selections and they’ll gift wrap your purchases for free!

The gallery’s current hours of 11-4 on Thursday, 11-9 on Friday and Saturday and 11-4 on Sunday have been extended  for the holidays. On Dec. 22 the gallery will be open from 11-4, Dec. 23 from 11-9, Dec. 24 from 11-3, Dec. 25, closed and Dec. 26 from 11-9.

Main Street Gallery is located at 518 Poplar St. and the reception is free and open to the public. Parking is available on the street and behind the gallery.
