LINKWOOD - Linkwood-Salem Volunteer Fire Company celebrated its 60th anniversary this past Saturday, with an events hall packed with firefighters, emergency service personnel from throughout the county, and visiting dignitaries delivering congratulations.

Major General James A. Adkins (retired) acted as emcee for the event. “Today provides a great opportunity to reflect back on those individuals who over time have been so important to the success of this fire company. They were your leaders, your teachers, your mentors, your friends, all so important to the legacy current members continue today. You are more than a volunteer fire company,” said General Adkins, “you are a family.”

Fire Company President Tracy Whitby-Fairall shared microphone duties with General Adkins, and presented a long roster of people delivering official proclamations congratulating the company on its 60th year. She thanked everyone in attendance for taking time out of a busy Saturday to help celebrate the event. “There are no unfamiliar faces in this crowd,” said President Whitby-Fairall, “everybody is very familiar with how proud we are here at Linkwood, especially of our 60 years that we are celebrating this month.”

Chief Sonny Willey joined President Whitby-Fairall in receiving congratulations from honored guests. Citations were presented by Bill Reddish, representing Congressman Andy Harris; Senator Addie Eckardt and past Senator Richard Colburn, representing the Maryland State Senate and Governor Larry Hogan; former Cambridge Mayor Dave Wooten, representing Comptroller Peter Franchot; Delegates Chris Adams and Johnny Mautz, representing the Maryland House of Delegates; President Mark Bilger, VP Richard Blair, and Secretary Doyle Cox representing the Maryland State Firefighters Association; Sheriff James Phillips representing the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department; and Councilman Tom Bradshaw, representing the Dorchester County Council.

Following the official proclamations, attendees enjoyed a lunch catered by Old Salty’s.
