CAMBRIDGE — After the very successful IRONMAN Maryland event, held recently in Cambridge was over, the event organizers found they had a surplus of food items and paper products. Fruit, juices, cookies, pretzels, soda, and milk, purchased by IRONMAN and given out to the athletes during the race, were some of the items left over.

Gerry Boyle, race director, through a local businessman, was put in touch with Grace UMC. The Rev. Christina Blake, JoAnn Hutton, and Wayne Towers from Grace Church took the food, drinks, and paper products and distributed them to Pleasant Day, the Cold Weather Shelter, DRI Dock Wellness & Recovery Center, and to residents of the New Horizons Apartments. Some of the food donations also went to several fire companies, including East New Market, Taylors Island, and Rescue Fire Company in Cambridge.

Grace Church took some of the two-liter sodas that they will give away during their annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner. The community thanks IRONMAN for their generosity and looks forward to next year.
