Historian John J. Creighton

On Tuesday morning, May 26, John J. Creighton peacefully passed away in the presence of loved ones after battling cancer for three years. As he was only 73 years young, it was too soon for him to go.

John was born in Wilmington, Delaware on June 21, 1941 but he considered Dorchester his home. He was educated in Wilmington, received his BA from Swarthmore College and his MBA at the University of Pittsburgh.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 30^th at Malone Church on White Marsh Road in Madison at 12 noon. Transportation will be provided for those who desire with a pick up location in front of the Harriet Tubman Organization on Race Street in Cambridge. Please call 443.521.7164 to arrange this.

John was blessed with three children- Steven, Danny and Heidi Creighton, who all survive him as does his sister, Suzanne Trice. John will be missed by not only his family, including lovely grandchildren, but by his colleagues and associates as well.

John focused much of his life on researching Harriet Tubman and the communities where she interacted, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware. His passion for this knowledge, his generosity with it and his brilliant mind was enhanced by his life partnership with Pat Lewis.
