Dorchester Center for the Arts offers monthly exhibits featuring a variety of art forms. Weekly exhibit hours are Tuesday – Thursday noon to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for admission.

Currently on exhibit through Feb. 23, “Woven through Time: Fiber Arts Past and Present” offers an up close and colorful look at works by over a dozen fiber artists. “100 Choptanks” opens March 1 featuring photography by John Lewis. Visit the galleries on March 2 and enjoy the Gallery Stage harp concert with Kara Dahl Russell at 2 p.m. Concert admission is free, donations welcome.

The classrooms feature new offerings as well. “Rhyme and Reason Poetry” with instructor Amber Green starts Feb. 23 for a five-week session on Saturdays, 10 – 11 a.m.

“Principles of Ceramics: Hand Building and Coil Pots” taught by Robert Gladney starts March 2 for a six-week session Saturdays from 10 a.m.-Noon. La’Toya J. Jackson will teach a four-week class “Reaping What You Sew” on Thursdays, March 7 – March 28, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Looking for something to do with the kids? Master screen painter John Iampieri returns on March 9 for a one-day workshop, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. This workshop is a perfect multi-generational activity, fun for both children and adults. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. In this workshop students will learn the history, tools, techniques, and functionality of this folk art form, embraced in Baltimore over 100 years ago. Call DCA for class registration: 410-228-7782. Save the Date for
“My Other Mother”!
“My Other Mother,” a staged reading, comes to DCA on March 10 at 2 p.m. “My Other Mother” is a new musical in production, that interprets the adoption and self-discovery of one woman. This presentation allows for audience interaction with the cast as well as the composer and author.

“My Other Mother” is a work of fiction by playwright Steffi Rubin and presented in partnership with music composer Miriam Kook. The performance is the result of a partnership between DCA and the Dorchester County Historical Society. There is no admission charge, but donations will be appreciated and go to offset costs. Reservations are a must and can be made by calling DCA at 410-228-7782, or the Historical Society at 410-228-7953.
