National Night Out

Cambridge police will celebrate National Night Out on Aug. 1, 6-8 p.m. at the Dorchester County Pool at 105 Virginia Avenue. The event, with a Hawaiian Luau theme, will feature food, friends and fun, a statement from the CPD said.

“We are asking everyone to come out and show your spirit by wearing a Hawaiian shirt,” the statement said. “If you or your business would like to be a sponsor of the Cambridge Police Department’s 2023 National Night Out, please contact Captain Patton at 410-228-3333.”

Armed robbery

Cambridge police are seeking a suspect in an armed robbery on July 16. At 11:29 p.m., officers responded to the Exxon on Sunburst Highway, where they learned that a man had pointed a handgun at an employee demanding money. The employee handed over cash and the man fled on a light-colored Beach Cruiser style bike towards Cedar Street. He was described as African American wearing black shorts, a black long-sleeved shirt or hoodie, red face mask and gloves, black shoes and a dark baseball hat with a gold sticker on the brim.

Police are asking for information. Call 410-228-3333. Callers can remain anonymous.

Assault

On July 14, at approximately 11:43 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 700 block of Greenwood Avenue for an assault. The victim reported having been assaulted by a 36-year-old Cambridge man by being struck in the head with a bicycle.

Officers observed an injury to the victim. The suspect said an argument ensued due to children being left at the residence while the victim was found on Douglas Street consuming drugs. He denied any assault. He was arrested and later released on his personal recognizance. Tyson Tyrell Sampson was charged with Assault 2nd Degree.

DUI

On July 14, at approximately 2:30 a.m., CPD officers were patrolling the area of Long Boat Estates development when they observed a woman lying outside the driver door of a vehicle which had crashed into a parked vehicle.

Officers administered a Standardized Field Sobriety Test to the 19-year-old Denton woman, which she failed. She was arrested and transported to CPD, where a blood test showed a result of .23. Caroline Otoko was charged with:

  • Driving Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • Driving Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol
  • Violating License Restriction
  • Driving Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol Per Se

She was later released on traffic citations.

Theft

On July 14, CPD officers responded to the Sailwinds Gas Station in reference to a theft. Employees said a woman had stolen a pair of sunglasses and told officers where she lived. Officers also observed video footage of the theft.

Destiny Brianna Alexander (23-year-old of Cambridge) was issued a Criminal Citation and released. She was charged with Theft Less $100.

Assault

On July 15, at approximately 1:24 a.m., CPD officers arrested a 27-year-old Cambridge man in the 400 block of Hughes Court.

Charges stem from an incident on June 30, in which a reported being assaulted and strangled by the suspect, who was not present when officers responded. Police applied for charges.

Lamar Marcus Smith was charged with the following:

  • Assault 1st Degree
  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • Malicious Destruction of Property
Disorderly conduct

On July 15 at approximately 11:50 p.m., CPD officers were in the 500 block of Greenwood Avenue monitoring a large crowd of approximately 500 subjects. The crowd was peaceful and respectful with officers.

While officers were monitoring the event, a 28-year-old Cambridge man became disorderly, despite other citizens’ attempting to usher him away. The subject continued to approach officers, wanting to fight, and getting into a fighting stance. Adrian Lamar Rideout was placed under arrest and later released on Criminal Citation. He was charged with Disorderly Conduct.

Robbery

On July 16, CPD officers arrested a 35-year-old Madison woman. Charges stem from a July 14 incident, when police responded to K2 Beverage at 501 Bayly Road for a robbery.

The victim reported being followed into the store by the suspect as the victim tried to cash a winning lottery ticket. The suspect grabbed the lottery ticket and cash from the victim’s hand and fled.

Officers viewed video of the event, identified the suspect, and applied for charges. Jaclyn Marie Johnson was charged with the following:

- Robbery

- Assault 2nd Degree

- Theft $100 to Under $1,500

- Theft Less Than $100

Shots fired investigation

On July 16 at approximately 6:40 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 700 block of Douglas Street for three Shot Spotter alerts, each reporting multiple shots.

Officers located multiple spent shell casings from the roadway. An unknown female juvenile who would not provide information to officers stated she believed she was the intended target. The suspect was described as a 17-year-old, African-American male approximately six feet tall, medium build, dark complexion wearing a black ski mask. Officers located one residence that was struck by gunfire, causing damage to the siding. The Cambridge Police Department is requesting the assistance of the Community with any information relating to this incident. Resisting arrest

 On July 17, CPD officers located a 14-year-old male juvenile in the 900 block of Camelia Street, who had an active Body Attachment for Failing to Comply with electronic monitoring. The juvenile attempted to flee. After a lengthy foot pursuit, the juvenile was apprehended in the 1000 block of Jimpson Road and later transported to the Department of Juvenile Services Detention Facility in Salisbury. The youth was referred to the Department of Juvenile Services on the following charges:

  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Fail to Obey
  • Resist Arrest
  • Obstruct and Hindering
Shots fired investigation

On July 17, at approximately 11:54 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 700 and 600 blocks of High Street in reference to two Shot Spotter alerts. Officers located multiple spent shell casings. No victims, witnesses or damaged property were located. The Cambridge Police Department is requesting the assistance of the Community with any information relating to this incident. Assault

On July 17, CPD officers responded to the 600 block of Academy Street, where they arrested a 58-year-old Cambridge woman who was threatening to stab a victim. Kimberly Dawn Yaap was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on No Bond. She was charged with:

  • Assault 1st Degree
  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • Reckless Endangerment
Assault

On July 18, CPD officers responded to the 1300 block of Glasgow Street for a disturbance, where they arrested a 69-year-old Cambridge man. The man reported a shoving match, in which the victim fell and hit sustained a head injury.

Larry Franklin Zeigler was charged with Assault 2nd Degree and was released on $5,000 unsecured bond.

Taser ends foot pursuit

On July 19, CPD officers responded to Family Dollar in reference to a theft incident. A description of the suspect led officers to the 400 block of Dorchester Avenue, where they located the suspect, who fled on foot.

Officers pursued him on foot to the 100 block of Washington Street, where he was apprehended after a Taser deployment. He was also found to have an active warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of False Statement to Peace Officer. Leroy Yuman IV, 40, was charged with:

  • Fail to Obey
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Obstruct and Hinder
  • Fraud Person Identity to Avoid Prosecution
  • Resist Arrest
  • CDS Possession Not Cannabis
  • CDS Possession Paraphernalia

After being evaluated at a hospital, he was also issued the following criminal citations:

  • Theft Less $100.00 Value
  • Fail to Obey
  • CDS Possession Not Cannabis
  • CDS Possession Paraphernalia
Criminal summons service

On July 19, CPD officers located a 44-year-old Cambridge woman in the 800 block of Hubbard Street, who was served a Criminal Summons and released on her signature. Danielle Adams was charged with Assault 2nd Degree.

Burglary

On July 19, at approximately 2:50 p.m., CPD officers met with a 45-year-old Kensington man, who was served a Criminal Summons and released on his signature. Charges stem from incidents that occurred on May 21 and July 14 in Walmart, when the suspect was observed taking items and not paying for them.

After the first incident, the man was given a no trespassing order for Walmart properties. After he was observed the second time, asset protection officers applied for charges.

Maurice Tyrone Collier was charged with:

  • Burglary 4th Degree Theft
  • Burglary 4th Degree Theft
  • Theft Scheme $100 to Under $1,500
  • Theft $100 to Under $1,500
  • Trespass Private Property
  • Theft Less Than $100.
