The Dorchester Drama Guild, a program of the Dorchester Center for the Arts (DCA) will present the musical “Godspell” in January. The beloved classic is from Stephen Schwartz, the Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer of “Wicked” and “Pippin.” Directing the performances for DCA is Laura Todd.

Come enjoy one of the most enduring shows of all time. The Tony-nominated score is filled with popular hits such as “Day By Day,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” and “Turn Back, O Man.” This timeless tale of friendship, loyalty, and love opened off Broadway on May 17, 1971.

There will be six performances presented on the Gallery Stage. Dates are: Jan. 23 and 24, 7 p.m.; Jan. 25, matinee 2 p.m.; Jan. 29 and 30, 7 p.m. and Feb. 1, matinee 2 p.m. (No performance Saturday)

Tickets are $10 for DCA members; $12 for non-members. There is also a student special on Jan. 29 only, when students are ½ price with ID.

Empty Bowls set for Jan. 25

The Dorchester County Empty Bowls community dinner to benefit food pantries will be held on Jan. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. (postponed from an earlier date) at the Dorchester Center for the Arts. Diners will receive a meal of homemade soup, salad, bread and dessert. In exchange for the ticket purchase, attendees will take home the bowl in which the soup is served.

The purpose of the bowl is to act as a reminder that someone else’s bowl is always empty. The long-term goal for this event is to encourage individuals to continue to support organizations who are working every day to feed those in need in Dorchester County.

“The Empty Bowls program is important for Dorchester County,” stated Empty Bowls local coordinator, Mickey Love, Dorchester Center for the Arts executive director. “For those of us who don’t have to worry about where we will find our next meal, this is an opportunity to help out others for whom a meal may be a luxury. Simply by coming together for a community meal, attendees can help fill the shelves at local food pantries.”

The event is sponsored by the Dorchester Center for the arts, Dorchester County churches and the Mid-Shore Community Foundation. All proceeds raised will be donated to local food panties and advance reservations are required.

Tickets for the Empty Bowls meal are $12. Those who paid for the earlier date will automatically be registered for the new event. Tickets can be purchased at the Dorchester Center for the Arts with cash or check only; or be charged by going to the Mid-Shore Community Foundation website at mscf.org and clicking on events.
