CAMBRIDGE — The Dorchester County Forestry Board announces the results of its 2015 Poster Contest for its fourth graders. Participating schools and their winners are listed in the photo captions. The theme of the poster contest was “Forests are a Renewable Resource.”

Our Project Forester, Scott Daniels, and George Radcliffe, board member, spoke with the fourth graders when possible to discuss the forest industry in Dorchester County, a very important part of our local economy. We thank our funders and the Cambridge Premier Cinemas for movie passes for the Honorable Mention winners. We also thank the Dorchester County schools and teachers who facilitated this project.

This year will be honoring a county-wide winner with recognizing her and her poster on the electronic billboard on US Route 50. The billboard will be running May 7 to 17. The 2015 county-wide winner is Le-Myra McBride, who is a student at Maple Elementary. Congratulations to all the participants and winners of the contest.

Four Dorchester County elementary schools participated in the 2015 contest:

The first place winners win $50 and the second place winners win $25.

The students learned about the importance of the forest industry and the forestry cycle (planting, thinning, harvesting and re-planting). Note: all photos are from left with 1st place, 2nd place and HM also from left.
