CAMBRIDGE — At their July 7 meeting, the Dorchester County Council heard an appeal from the Maryland chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and approved the use of sections of the county for the first Chesapeake Challenge 2015 event. The Challenge is a walk to raise funds for MS research. Council noted that the Society would need approval from Cambridge City Council, as the event starts at Sailwinds and ends in Great Marsh Park. The event will be happening on Sept. 12.

Continuing with business, the Council approved a Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Bond Allocation Request, and agreed to sign a FY16 Noxious Weed Control Cooperative Agreement from the Maryland Department of Agriculture, for annual weed spraying in the county.

A Surplus Property Declaration Request was approved, allowing the county offices to move out old furniture and allow it to be sold.

A request for a 911 Advisory Board appointment was approved, and Rachel Cox was appointed. A reappointment of James Pinkett to the Social Services Board was approved, as well as a new appointment to the board, which was given to Chief Dan Dvorak of the Cambridge PD.

The Boy Scouts submitted a request to change the date of their Cubmobile event, which will take place in the County Office Building parking lot. The date was changed to Sept. 20.

A number of grant application requests and grant awards were approved. Among them a Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention Grant Awards for the Sheriff’s Office that will cover expenses involved in Sexual Offender & Compliance enforcement, as well as a grant for body armor acquisition that will cover 50 percent of the cost of the armor.

A Community Development Block Grant Sub-recipient Agreement was approved for Chesapeake Grove-Delmarva Community Services, concerning a grant for $600,000 that was received last year towards the building of the new Intergenerational Center.

There was also a strategic Demolition & Smart Growth Impact Fund Grant application request submitted by the Grant Monitor, to apply for funds needed to demolish condemned properties already owned by the county, which was approved.

Storm Water Management Agreements approval requests were approved for Public Works, and the Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention Safe Streets grant award was approved.

A travel request from the Economic Development Department to attend the 2015 Maryland Association of Counties Summer Conference was approved, and also for the EDD a resolution to accept the already approved Maryland Technology Development Corporation loan for the Eastern Shore Innovation Center was agreed upon.

The FY16 Senior Care Plan submitted by Social Services was also approved.

Added to the agenda at the last minute were a request to approved lot pricing for the Tech Park, which was approved. A lease for 824 Fairmount Ave. in Cambridge for the Headstart Program was approved, as was a MOU concerning the ongoing restoration of the historic Hearn Building in Cambridge.
