CAMBRIDGE — Two Cambridge-South Dorchester High School students have been successful in the Young Authors Contest organized by the State of Maryland Literacy Association.

Aamna Alvi, a 10th grader, won first place in the short story category for her grade with “The Blind Date,” a story about a date that turned out differently than expected. Besides enjoying writing, Aamna is an enthusiastic reader involved in various school activities who hopes to go to college for a career in a medical field.

Senior Maggi Pantzloff was awarded second place among 12th graders for her gothic mystery short story “The Girl Who Never Spoke.” Maggi says she “loves” writing, describing a project involving 10 original poems she wrote and illustrated recently for her English class. Following graduation in May, Maggi will attend college and is planning on a career in chemical engineering.

Both winners will be among the 16 high school writers honored during a reception at the State of Maryland Literacy Association’s annual conference at Hunt Valley in early April at which time they will have the opportunity to read an excerpt from their stories.
