CAMBRIDGE — The Dorchester Goes Purple Committee announces students from Cambridge-South Dorchester High School won the 2018 Public Service Announcement contest. The contest was offered to students at all high and middle schools in Dorchester County. The objective of the contest was to create a 30 second Public Service Announcement that would help students understand the dangers of opioid addiction.

The top 5 videos were submitted to the Dorchester Goes Purple Committee to evaluate and to select the PSA that they felt conveyed the message the best. Videos were submitted to the committee from Mace’s Lane Middle School, North Dorchester Middle School, South Dorchester K-8, North Dorchester High School and the winning entry from Cambridge-South Dorchester High School.

The students on the winning team are: Casey Bennett, Keith Bryant, Eric Day, Kate Dixon, Laura Dixon, Jasper Hood, Helen Hutchinson, Nick Kuntz, Mari Lopez, Ashlynn Mann, Laiba Nisar, and Elizabeth Thomas.
The prize for the winning team was to have a professional, production quality version of their entry created by the 47ABC production team. The PSA would then be run on 47ABC and CW3, as well as on the Comcast and Bay Country Cable Systems.
“It was an extremely difficult decision for the committee to select a single video,” says Bill Christopher, president/CEO of the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce. “All the submissions were impressive, and each delivered a solid message. We hope the schools can use all the entries submitted to help spread the message. We are also extremely grateful to 47ABC for their eagerness to engage in this project from the beginning and to Comcast Spotlight and Bay Country Communications for agreeing without any hesitation to run the spot as well.”
