Viking girls 3rd overall, boys take 6th in region ANNAPOLIS — Lady Vikings brought home another title on Saturday, as the Cambridge-South Dorchester High School 200-yard freestyle relay squad became Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association Regional Champions for Class 3A-2A-1A East. The squad of Micah Slacum, Nora Hauge, Madde Narr and Katie Ryan qualified for the state championships on Saturday at the University of Maryland - College Park’s Eppley Recreation Center. C-SD faced Northeast Anne Arundel, Southern Anne Arundel, Kent County, Kent Island, Queen Anne’s, Easton, Stephen Decatur, Digital Harbor, Dunbar, Patterson and Forest Park. Overall, the girls placed third and the boys were sixth. The girls went into the relay optimistically, but knew what they were up against. “We looked at the times [of the other teams] beforehand, and we thought we could make it to states, but we wouldn’t win,” sophomore Katie Ryan said. “It didn’t even occur to us. The other teams have such good relay teams,” she said. “But it made it all the better when we did pull out the win.” And as for states? “It’ll be a good reward for all our hard work this season,” Katie said. “We’re excited to represent C-SD at the state level.” The State Swimming Championships for Class 3A-2A-1A will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
