CAMBRIDGE — Cambridge South Dorchester High’s boys’ lacrosse team improved their record Wednesday night with a win over Wicomico 17-3 in the first round of playoffs of the MD 2A-1A East 2 Conference. The Vikings improved to 8-5 overall, 5-3 in the North Bayside, while the Tribe finished the season 1-11.

The first half was dominated by the Vikings as the scoring began early by senior Tyler Wright (3 goals). Junior Emory Wongus (3 goals), Sophomore Jarrett Bromwell (2 goals), and Sophomore Micah Brooks (1 goal) lead their team to a 9-1 lead at the half. Senior Trevor North and Sophomore Jake Morris had 2 assists. Wi-Hi goal scored by Jordan Evans.

Wicomico began the third quarter with a goal by Devin Phillips but the Vikings quickly answered with goals from senior Dayne Nelson (3 goals), Emory Wongus (1 goal), Jarrett Bromwell (1 goal), Micah Brooks (1 goal-1 assist), Tre’ Lake (1 goal) and assists from Tyler Wright and Trevor North. Wicomico would finish with a final goal by Seth Jones.

Senior goalkeeper Carter Malkus is credited with 7 saves, while Sophomore Ian Powley made 2 saves. Face offs were dominated by the Vikings’ Michael Rodriguez.

The Vikings defense held off the Tribe, anchored by Seniors Jacob Tiered, Brett Harris and Jake Weber, and Sophomores Troy Chester and Aaron Collins. Tieder transitioned the ball well off clears and face offs.

“We went out there tonight and got it done” senior Captain Tyler Wright said. Emory Wongus added “We played hard and we’re moving on.”

“Our kids played well tonight all over the field,” Vikings coach Steve Hurley said. “We transitioned the ball well but we still need to work on ground balls.” “Wi-Hi played hard and moved the ball. We are looking forward to the next round of playoffs.”

The Vikings played again May 8, 2015 in Vikings Stadium against Kent County.
