CAMBRIDGE - A new chapter was written on Thursday in the decades-long rivalry between Cambridge-South Dorchester and Easton high school's boys' basketball program, when the C-SD Vikings beat the Warriors 63-62. But this time, it wasn't just what happened, it was how it happened.

With the Easton men ahead by two points with 12 seconds left, the Vikings got the ball and moved down the court. It went to Keshawn Potter, with two seconds left - the capacity crowd raising the roof, fans of both teams yelling at an ear-popping volume, drums beating, cheerleaders calling out - and he took the shot.

"Being a senior, I had to step up and take a big shot," Keshawn said after the game.

The only way to win was to drop one in from 3-point distance. The crowd held its breath - the ball caromed off the backboard, and fell through for the win as the clock ticked down to zero.

And that's when the party started.

The noise hit a whole new level, as fans swarmed the court, trying to hug players who were too excited to stand still for congratulations. "It was a nail biter," Debbie Walker said in a comment online. "Glad I witnessed it!"
