Wyoming area crash leaves one dead

WYOMING — The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred in the Wyoming area Wednesday night that left one man dead.

Spokesman Senior Cpl Leonard DeMalto said that at approximately 9:21 p.m., a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling eastbound on Willow Grove Road approaching the intersection at Fivefoot Prong Lane at a high rate of speed.

As he approached a slight curve in the road, Cpl. DeMalto said, the driver lost control of the car and exited the south (right) side of the roadway. The Malibu traveled for approximately 300 feet before it struck a tree and caught fire.

The driver of the Malibu has yet to be identified and was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the car, and no other vehicles were involved in the collision, police said. Willow Grove Road was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident.
