DOVER — A 56-year-old woman died from injuries suffered after a car crashed into a home she occupied Tuesday.

Delaware State Police said that, at approximately 2:42 a.m., a Honda Accord was traveling west on Forrest Avenue, just east of Artic Drive, at an apparent high rate of speed. As the car negotiated a curve, it lost control, veering off the south edge of the road.

The Accord struck a mailbox before crashing into the Forrest Avenue house, authorities said. It came to rest inside the residence.

The driver fled the scene and has yet to be identified, troopers said.

Dawn Dimartino was inside the building, and she sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The road was closed for approximately three hours.

Police ask witnesses and those with information to contact Master Cpl. J. Lane at 302-698-8457, send a message via the state police Facebook page or call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
