DOVER - Winfield L. Schwartz, age 98, of Dover, passed away peacefully on Dec. 10, 2010. He was born on Aug. 7, 1912, in Schuylkill Haven, Pa., to Elmer W. Schwartz and Edna Loy Schwartz. He spent his childhood in Schuylkill Haven and most of his adult life in Dover, where he worked for 31 years as a Plant Engineer at International Playtex. He was a registered Professional Engineer in DE and NJ and retired in 1977. Winfield graduated from Schuylkill Haven High School in 1930 and from Muhlenberg College in 1934. He also attended Purdue University during his service in the U.S. Army. During World War II, he served his country in the Philippines. He was a charter member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Dover and was an active member of the church until his death. He enjoyed reading and travel. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother-in-law, William J. McGlinchey. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth A. Dietz Schwartz; his son, Richard and wife Michelle Tau of Cranbury, N.J.; and his son, Robert and wife Cynthia of Rolla, Mo. He is also survived by his sister, Marion A. McGlinchey of Schuylkill Haven; and grandchildren, Christopher Yung and Melissa Tau Schwartz of Cranbury. A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. A visitation scheduled for 10 a.m. will also be held at the church. Burial will be at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Friedensburg, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 425 North DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.
