Like so many in the Milford community, I am heartbroken by the devastating fire at Lulu M. Ross Elementary School early Sunday, Oct. 25. While I am incredibly thankful that no one was injured, my heart goes out to the students, educators, staff and families whose lives have been turned upside down.
I want the families and school employees to know that I stand ready to help in any way I can. I have spoken with Gov. Matt Meyer about the situation, and I appreciate his attention to the needs of the Milford community during this time. I will work with Milford School District leaders, state officials and my fellow legislators to help identify both immediate solutions and a long-term plan that will get our children back into classrooms and provides the stability they deserve.
I also want to extend my sincere gratitude to the firefighters and first responders who worked tirelessly to contain the fire and prevent even further damage.
Milford is a strong, close-knit community, and I’ve seen time and again what we can accomplish when we come together. Now is one of those times. I encourage our neighbors, businesses, churches and community groups to rally around the school’s family, as we begin the road to recovery.
