LONG NECK — An 18-year-old Wilmington man was arrested by members of the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit for his alleged role in a homicide that took place Thursday afternoon in the Capitol Park community in Dover.

Delaware State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Heather Pepper said through investigative measures the state police identified Marcus Bailey as the suspect involved in the shooting incident.

Troopers responded to Senator Avenue in Capitol Park for the reported shooting on Thursday at around 3:50 p.m.

Sgt. Pepper said an investigation found that a 33-year-old Dover man was seated in the driver seat of a vehicle parked on Senator Avenue when Mr. Bailey got into the backseat of the car.

The suspect talked to the victim before allegedly demanding the victim’s property. At some point during the encounter, the victim was shot in the upper torso.

Mr. Bailey then allegedly fled the vehicle in an unknown direction. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers took Mr. Bailey into custody without incident during a traffic stop in the Long Neck Wawa parking lot on Saturday.

He was taken to Delaware State Police Troop 7 in Lewes where he was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

Mr. Bailey was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on a $1,120,000 cash bond.
