William T. Lord Jr., 90 HARRINGTON - William T. Lord, Jr., 90, of Harrington, died Friday, March 12, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington. Mr. Lord was born in Harrington the son of the late William T. and Pauline (Hall) Lord. He was a 1938 graduate of Harrington High School and served in World War II in the U.S. Navy. He began working as a carpenter for the Pennsylvania Railroad, continued with Penn Central and retired from Conrail in 1981 after working over 30 years. He was a great carpenter and enjoyed building in and around the Harrington area, especially doing work at St. Bernadettes and actively working at the Railroad House in Rehoboth Beach. He never visited friends and family empty handed. He was a member of the American Legion C.K.R.T. Post # 7 in Harrington where he was a Past Commander and served as their service officer for years. He enjoyed bowling at Milford Bowling Lanes, was an avid gardener and loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially Robert and Chris, who he practically raised as his own. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Elizabeth F. Lord in 1999; a sister, Jane Carpenter; and a brother, John Lord. He is survived by his wife, Elisabeth K. Lord, of Georgetown; two sons, Thomas L. Lord and his wife Vicki of Waverly, Va., and William W. Lord, of Provincetown, Mass.; a daughter, Kathie S. Sherman of Harrington; a step-daughter Barbara Boyer of Georgetown; one brother, Robert Lord of Harrington; five sisters, Ann Jump, Mary Pitlick, Audrey Zeitler, all of Harrington, Laura Betts, of Greenwood, and Evelyn Layton of Hurlock, Md.; seven grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, and seven great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was Celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010, at St. Bernadettes Catholic Church, 109 Dixon Street, Harrington. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford - Harrington Highway. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to St. Bernadette's Catholic Church Memorial Fund, 109 Dixon Street, Harrington, DE 19952 or to the American Legion C.K.R.T. Post #7, 17448 South Dupont Highway, Harrington, DE 19952. Arrangements by McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, Harrington.
