SMYRNA - William J. Billings, of Smyrna, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2011, peacefully surrounded by his family. He was 82. Mr. Billings was born Nov. 13, 1928, in Felton, the son of the late Joshua Billings and Ethel Cook Billings. He was a truck driver for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed being on the road driving his truck and was an avid NASCAR fan of Harry Gant, and recently, of Carl Edwards. He raced modified race cars in various tracks in Delaware. He also loved his pets and eating with his friends at the Waffle House. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Ann Billings; a sister, Helen Lyle; and three brothers, Jimmy, Jack, and Charles. He is survived by three sons, Larry J. Billings and his wife, Debbie of Smyrna, Billy J. Billings and his wife, Nancy of Laurel, and Wayne A. Billings and his wife, Michelle of Clayton; a daughter, Lisa A. Billings of Smyrna; a sister, Ruth Ann Renniger and her husband, Herbie of Boyertown, Pa.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at noon in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
