HURLOCK, Md. - William Holland, Sr., died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 in Easton Memorial Hospital in Easton, Md., after a short illness. He was born April 9, 1931, the son of the late Leroy and Lillian Thomas Holland, Sr. He attended Caroline County schools and was an alumni of Lockerman High School in Denton, Md. Mr. Holland was drafted into the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He received an Honorable Discharge in March 1960. He married Annabelle Jenkins in 1957. From this union, three children were born, two sons, William, Jr., and Trevor L. Holland; and one daughter, Kimberly H. Chandler. Mr. Holland was very fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He helped raise his oldest granddaughter, Ebony Lyons Torres. Mr. Holland dedicated a significant part of his life to owning and operating a barber shop in Easton, Md. For more than 50 years, he served countless customers from the Dorchester, Caroline and Talbot County areas. He even continued to serve few a clients at home, until his health recently failed. When at home, he could be found working in his yard trimming hedges, cutting the lawn and completing minor repairs. He also enjoyed sitting in his favorite chair outside under a tree, socializing with neighbors. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Holland was preceded in death by four sisters, Marie Fletcher, Carrie Green, Wilimina Holland and Clara Walker; and two brothers, Leroy, Jr., and Charles Holland. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, William Holland, Jr., of Hurlock, Md., Trevor and Keisha Holland, of Fruitland, Md.; one daughter and a son-in-law, Kimberly and V. Lamar Chandler, of Dover; five grandchildren, Ebony Lyons Torres (Michael, Sr.) of Harve de Grace, Md., Jordyn Chandler, Lamar Chandler, Jr., both of Dover, Trevor Holland, of Wilmington, and Toddrea Jackson, of Fruitland, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Evan, Brookline, Aubrey and Michael Torres, Jr.; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Mabel Holland, Sr., of Preston, Md.; a sister-in-law, Delores Mosley, of Hurlock, Md.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, at Hurlock United Methodist Church, Hurlock, Md. A public viewing will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until services at noon. Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Hurlock, Md.
