William H. Draper, 77

DOVER - William H. Draper Jr., of Dover, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at his home with family. He was 77.

He was born on Sept. 27, 1930, in Wyoming, to the late William and Elizabeth Phillips Draper Sr.

Bill, a town of Wyoming native, graduated with honors from Caesar Rodney High School in 1948 and the University of Delaware in 1952, where he had joined Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Bill graduated from Washington & Lee Law School in Lexington, Va., in 1955.

He started his law practice in Dover with the Terry law firm then moved into his solo practice for 20 years.

Bill moved to Fairport, N.Y., and became claims examiner with the State Insurance Fund.

He had been active in the Friends of Old Dover, the newly formed Archeological Society of Delaware, and served on the vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Camden.

Bill was an enthusiastic gardener and walked many miles on local farm fields collecting Indian artifacts and was an avid and knowledgeable antique collector.

He took a special interest in local history and could tell many stories about folks who had lived in the area generations ago.

Bill was a devoted family man and an enthusiastic genealogist, tracing his family back many generations.

He enjoyed spending time with friends and derived great pleasure from his work with Meals-on Wheels.

He is survived by wife, Jane Massey Draper of Dover; son, Avery W. Draper of Atlanta, Ga.; son, W. Massey Draper of Canton, Ohio; daughter, Hannah Elizabeth Draper of Newark; sister, Jane Cantine of Colorado; and six grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Christ Episcopal Church, Dover.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

A gathering of friends and family will be noon after the Memorial Services at the Christ Episcopal Church Parish Hall.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1374, Dover, DE 19903; and/or Delaware Hospice, 911 South Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
