HARTLY - William George Kent, of Hartly, died Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Kent General Hospital. He was 86. Mr. Kent was born June 23, 1925, in Clifton Heights, Pa., oldest of eight children, to the late John Matthew Kent and Catherine Landy Kent. He served in the United States Navy from 1943-1949 and then joined the United States Marine Corp serving from 1952-1955. Mr. Kent had worked in road maintenance for Upper Providence Township, Pa., for over twenty years. In 1995, after his retirement, they moved to Delaware. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, and going to Garrisons Lake and Myrtle Beach, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Beyer Kent of Hartly; son, Carl B. Kent and his wife Paulette of Marydel; brothers, Robert Kent of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Paul Kent of New London, Pa.; three grandchildren, William L. Kent and his wife Rachel, Matthew M. Kent and his wife Renee, Amanda M. Kent Jackson and her husband Antonio; and 13 great-grandchildren, Colin, Tyler, Shelby, Noah, John, Chelsea, Brandon, Alek, Arynne, Anna, Madeline, William and Elena. Funeral services will be 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt10), Dover.
