Parker, 78 FREDERICA - William Franklin Parker died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at Bay Health Hospital. Mr. Parker was born March 11, 1934 on a small tobacco farm in Wilson County, N.C. to the late James Grover Parker and Elsie Marie Bass Parker. Two weeks after graduation from Elm City High School he entered the United States Marines from 1952 to 1957 serving during the Korean War during the Korean Theater and then enlisted in the United States Air Force from where he retired as SMSgt in 1980. He served a total of 28 years. He served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam and after receiving serious injuries as a result of a C7A Aircraft crash in 1969 during his second tour, he chose to complete his tour of duty returning stateside in 1970. After retiring from the service he went to work for the United States Postal Service from 1984 'til 1996. Not ready to totally retire, Mr. Parker went to work for Hertrich's Fleet Sales as a part-time driver where he thoroughly enjoyed delivering vehicles. He enjoyed traveling with all his new friends and drivers all over N.J., Pa., Md., Va. and W.Va. Mr. Parker was a member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post #2, Dover and life member of D.A.V., AF Sgt Assoc., M.O.C and VFW Post #3238, Camden Wyoming, where he was past post commander and state all-American post commander. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Shizue Fujii Parker, mother of his children; and his brothers, James O. Parker, and George E. Parker. He is survived by his 2nd wife, Ruth Ogborn Parker of Frederica; two sons, Howard Parker and his wife Sheila of Cary, N.C., Nelson C. Parker and his wife Marjorie of Lutherville, Md.; daughter, Janet Simmons and her husband Scott of Garner, N.C.; step-daughters, Debbie Matthews of Milford, Diane Eccleston and Tina Parks both of New Berlin, N.Y. and Vickie Wright of Frederica; his aunt, Blanche Worrell of Elm City, N.C.; sister-in-laws, Marlys Parker and Mae Parker; grandchildren, Casey, Jordan, Emma, Ryan and Sophie; eleven step-grandchildren; nephew, Jimmy Parker and nieces, Deborah Derouin and her husband Tom, Karen Huhn and her husband Jon.
