MILFORD - William Edward "Ed" Evans, lifelong resident of Milford, died on Sunday, Jun. 25, 2017, in his home. Born May 6, 1930. He graduated from Milford High School in 1948. Was a founding member of the Reformation Lutheran Church in Milford. A proud Veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving on the lightship Winter Quarters and on discharge he worked at Dupont in Seaford for a brief time. After Dupont, he was a Civil Service radar technician at Dover Air Force Base and served as the president of the AFLCIO until his retirement. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, American Legion, and the NRA. He and our mother belonged to the Shore Seekers Metal Detecting Club and began JD Evans Electronics because he and mom loved to go metal detecting at the beach on Sunday nights. He loved, county, state and his hometown of Milford. He was a supporter of many organizations but his favorite was the Milford Museum. He enjoyed hanging out with his childhood buddies at the Westside Restaurant, where they discussed and solved all the problems of the day. He loved people in general and his motto was "give a hug, get a hug", he didn't know a stranger. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jennie Dodd Evans; his parents, Edward Call Evans and Essie Brown Evans; his brother, Donald McNair Evans; his son-in-law, Terry Ralph Callaway; and his granddaughter, Krista Marlene Borden. He is survived by his son, William Edward "Eddie" Evans, Jr., of Milford; three daughters, Edna Marlene Evans-Castelow and husband Jack, of Milford, Joyce Evans Whitten and husband Kevin, of Hope Mills, N.C., and Mary Ellen Evans Callaway, of Bridgeville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one cousin; one niece; and one nephew and their families. Family and friends are cordially invited to join us in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at the Milford Moose Family Center, 20142 Beaver Dam Road, Milford. Visitation with family begins at 1 p.m. The Memorial service is at 2 p.m. with Pastor Carol Price officiating. Food and time of fellowship will immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that a donation to the Milford Museum be made in his name.
