William Douglass Anderson, 75

DOVER - William D. Anderson, age 75, departed this life into eternal rest on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at his home in Dover. He was born April 11, 1934, in Abingdon, Va, to the late James Henry and Lorraine Anderson. He graduated from Douglass High School in Bristol, VA in 1953. On Dec. 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Anne Anderson. William served in the U.S. Air Force, and retired at Dover Air Force Base. He attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. Following his retirement, he was an entrepreneur in the car sales business. William enjoyed listening to music, watching sports, and spending time with his family. William is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Anne; his daughter, Valerie (Willis); his son, James Anderson; his daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Gregg Bunkley; his son, Bill Anderson; his five grandchildren, Dea Anderson, Bernard Willis, KeiOndra Anderson, Jasmine Bunkley, and Avery Anderson; his great-grandson, Shawn Savage, Jr. He is further survived by his cousin, Vann Wheeler; and a host of loving relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil Spears. A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division Street, Dover. The Rev. Alice Johnson Ervin, of Whatcoat UM Church will oversee the entombment at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook may be signed at www.benniesmithfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
