CLAYTON - William C. 'Bill' Dawson, of Clayton, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 59. Mr. Dawson was born Jan. 11, 1953, in Pennsville, N.J., the son of the late William and Shirley Dawson. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines. Mr. Dawson retired from Georgia Pacific in 2007. The most important thing to Bill was his family. He loved his truck and was an avid NASCAR fan and sports fan. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 31 years, Barbara; four daughters, Jennifer A. Alioa of Smyrna, Brandy N. Kauffman of Pennsville, Jamie D. Lore and her husband Gilbert of Smyrna, and Megan L. Dawson and her fiancée William Mason of Clayton; two sons, William C. Dawson and his wife Jana of Greenwood, Ark., and Eric J. Dawson and his wife Jennifer of Dover; two sisters, Joan Nichols of Baldwyn, Miss., and Sharon Bogart of Venice, Fla.; ten grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, close friends; and his faithful companion, Rescue. A viewing will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 11 a.m., in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at noon. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. The family strongly discourages floral arrangements to the funeral home. As an alternative, Bill would have liked contributions to his daughter Megan's college fund, in care of Barbara Dawson, to help defray educational costs, or to the Hartly Fire Company and Ambulance Service, PO Box 50, Hartly, DE 19953, in Bills memory.
