CAMDEN - William A. T. Dawson, of Camden, passed away Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, in Westminster Assisted Living, Dover. He was 92. William was born on Sept. 14, 1916, in Houston, son of the late William Oscar and Nettie F. (Travis) Dawson. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II. William was the owner of Dawson Bus Service, Inc. A staunch civic-minded member of the community, Mr. Dawson belonged to numerous organizations such as 4-H and Links, a former board member of the First National Bank of Wyoming, the Union Masonic Lodge, Nur Shrine, and the Kent and Sussex Scottish Rite Club, Camden-Wyoming Rotary, where he was past president and recipient of the Paul Harris Award, member of the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company, where he was chief, and past president of the Delaware Firemen's Association, the Air Force Association, Camden-Wyoming Moose, Whatcoat United Methodist Church, member of the Chamber of Commerce and was recipient of the Small Business Man Award in 1989, National School Transportation Association, where he received the Golden Merit Award, and the Hall of Fame Award in 1992. He was also involved in the town of Camden where he had served as Mayor and councilman for many years. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lillian "Billie" (Ingram) Dawson; a brother, Oscar "Dem" Dawson; a sister, Margaret Saunders; and a grandson, Brian Dawson. He is survived by two sons, William "Ray" Dawson and his wife Elaine of Dover, and John "Tom" Dawson and his wife Mary of Camden; a sister, Jean D. Lister and her husband Charles of Camden; a sister-in-law, Jonnye Dawson of Florida; six grandchildren, Jeffrey W. Dawson and his wife Kirsten, Sharon D. Scheers and her husband James, Amy D. Mault and her husband James, Lisa A. Dawson, Linda D. Price and her husband Spencer and Susan D. Nichols and her husband Jon; great-grandchildren, William Brighton Dawson, Benjamin A. Dawson, Raya A. Mault, Kayleigh M. Mault, Davis J. Mault, Jon "Wesley" Nichols, and Ella Brooke Price; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Services will be 11 a.m., Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company, P.O. Box 186, Camden-Wyoming, DE 19934, or Delaware Hospice, 911 S.
