William A. 'Bill' Douty Jr., 84 ODESSA - William A. "Bill" Douty Jr., 84, a lifelong resident of Odessa, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010, at Christiana Hospital in Newark. Born on April 10, 1926, in Odessa, he was the son of the late Lena (Adel) and William A. Douty Sr. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and enjoyed sharing stories of his time spent in the military with his family. In his earlier years, he was the owner of Odessa Alignment and Brake Center. Bill diligently served the citizens of Delaware for more than 20 years with the Delaware State Police; retiring with the distinction of Captain. Bill had a passion for horses, especially Coke, his favorite horse and was an avid and skilled rider. He also had a fondness for dogs and provided endless love to all 25 that he brought home over the course of many years. Bill lived a full life and along with his wife, Ruth, traveled extensively. He was a charter member of FOP Lodge #6 for Delaware State Police and was currently a member of FOP Lodge #10. He was also a member of the Retired Delaware State Police Association and a life member of Odessa Volunteer Fire Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Liam P. Douty; and a sister, Ruth L. Watkins. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Kathryn (Walsh) Douty; a daughter, Linda M. Brainard and her husband, Michael; two sons, William A. Douty and his wife, Karen and Brian P. Douty and his wife, Valerie; five grandchildren, William J. Douty, Jennifer L. Moeller, Heather A. Cusme, Kyle W. David and Taylor K. Douty; and four great-grandchildren, Alex T. Cusme, Zachary L. Cusme; Ella C. David and Jacob M. Kuhnle, as well as many dear friends. Graveside services will be held privately at Old Drawyers Cemetery, near Odessa. Memorial contributions can be made to the Odessa Volunteer Fire Company, P. O.
