Let me be blunt after reading many letters and articles published about the current Dover mayor and council. I have read Mr. William Faust’s letters, along with those of many other residents who want the mayor and council to do their jobs and stop wasting our money. Therefore, I think it’s time for change.
The people want their city government to be more efficient, effective and accountable. These council members up for reelection — and some of the ones who are not — need to focus on the serious real issues that are affecting every resident of the city. They need to protect taxpayer dollars and stop the waste, abuse and cover-ups. Many of us are fed up and want a transformation. If we stay with the same council members who have the same mindset and are for the same old status quo, then Dover will never move forward, and fees and taxes will continue to go up with unnecessary spending. Folks, if you don’t believe me, take a look at your utility bills and follow the city money trail.
Maybe you don’t care and are wealthy, like most of the sitting council members, and live in an affluent area like Fox Hall or Maple Dale. Or maybe you’re like the rest of us who are just regular blue-collar workers trying to make ends meet and trying to provide for our families or are senior citizens living on fixed incomes without the luxury of paying higher fees or higher tax rates.
I ask my fellow residents of Dover this question: Are you better off than you were four years ago? Do you feel your neighborhoods are safer and more secure the last four years? Is it easier for you to live comfortably and afford things the past four years? If the answer is yes, then it’s obvious you are satisfied with the current leadership on City Council. But, if you don’t agree and you don’t think the course the current council members have taken the past four years is acceptable, just remember, you will have a choice. You have a pool of new candidates. You will have a selection of fresh faces with new ideas to choose from April 15. If you want a better tomorrow, get out and vote!
