What do you think about efforts to shrink the federal workforce?

Posted

An Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll conducted in January found that shrinking the federal workforce — whether through job cuts or getting rid of entire agencies — has more opposition than support. Do you know anyone who has lost a federal position? Are these cuts necessary?

  • It is a big sham. There has been no real cost cutting with this travesty, and it is cruel to people who have been doing a good job serving the people of America. The getting rid of entire agencies is only going to hurt people and policies that protect them. The cruelness of destroying tens of thousands of lives is needless. All Americans are going to be hurt by these cuts for several years, even if we get rid of Donald Trump! — Patrick and Enez S. Dale
  • Yes, I think some agencies need to be laid off, but also, some need to be added. The way it’s being done now is not right. You should say that you should shrink a percentage of your department and let the department decide who goes. — Name withheld
  • “President” Elon Musk has no business cutting anything. — Brendan Warner
  • It’s about time! — Dennis Kirkwood
  • It’s wonderful! Cutting off the tax-leeching grifters is excellent news. There is so much waste in government, and $37 trillion in debt shows us the excess. Tar and feather the politicians! Government is a scam. — Marinus Willett
  • Only those involved in this monstrous fraud would oppose cutting it! — Mary Bashtarz
  • Great idea. — Christa Bledsoe
  • It’s a fine line in my mind because I don’t want essential government services to be curtailed or cut in the process. But, overall, I agree that we do need to get rid of the waste. — Pete Vigneri
  • Yes, these cuts are necessary and should have been done a long time ago. Every level of government needs to have this done. So much bloat in the federal, state and local governments. — Debbie Gorab
  • Absolutely need these cuts. — Sandy McDermott Lewis
  • Do it. — Charles Miller
  • Very necessary and should have been a long time ago. — Sandy Johnson
  • Wonderful! It’s taxpayers’ money the government is wasting on a bloated workforce. — Philip L. Puschel
  • Long overdue. Politicians have been ruining this country financially for decades. If something doesn’t change now, then we will be bankrupt soon. The current interest payment on the debt exceeds the defense budget. — Bob Hice
  • Time to start cutting excess in Dover, too. — Warren Avis
