What are your thoughts about Meyer halting Leg Hall funds?
Posted
Gov. Matt Meyer recently vetoed a line item in the fiscal 2027 bond bill that would have appropriated $35 million toward a Legislative Hall expansion. “When I hear from people who cannot afford their first home, or who pay more for childcare than their mortgage, or who cannot afford to see a doctor, I cannot support $35 million to expand Legislative Hall,” he stated. How do you feel about this move? Did the governor make a responsible choice?
With Delaware legislators voting to increase taxes and approving Delmarva Power increases, this move surprised me, but I’d like to know how he’s going to put that $35 million to use to help Delawareans. — Josh Wilson
Yes, it’s the first thing he’s done that I agree with. — Michele Hayden
I approve of his action on this. I immediately thought he must be feeling a huge political pressure to back off spending. Now, let’s correct more of his administration’s bad decisions. — Sherry Buckingham Peck
I’m nearly handicapped. I have had to stop testifying in person because it is painful to navigate Legislative Hall. — Gregory S. Layton
Expansion should have been halted; however, Leg Hall needs a lot of repairs. But, at the same time, maybe some other things should have been halted, too, considering the deficit. — Sarah Mullin
It doesn’t matter because the veto will be overruled. — Marian Parrish Coker
I approve of this. People should be able to see their doctors and pay for their prescriptions, daycare and such. — Carole Irelan-Phillips
I’m happy, and now, everyone who votes to spend that money needs to be replaced. And, while we’re at it, vote in term limits. — Dorothy Owens-Sciarra
A two-thirds majority can reverse his veto, so maybe it was just a move to make him look good in the public eye, and the legislature would be the bad guy, and he will take a bow. — Paul Gregory Caple
Until they start working for us, they don’t deserve a new office. — Joseph David DiPasquale
He makes a big deal, like he sacrificed something so precious as building upgrades to solve the many woes of the taxpayers and show them what he’s willing to do on our behalf! Meanwhile, literally every policy the man implements is costing taxpayers more. — Cynthia Lewis
