RESPONSES TO QUESTION OF THE WEEK

What are your thoughts about daylight saving time?

Posted

On July 14, the U.S. House of Representatives approved an act that would put the country on daylight saving time permanently. The measure still has to pass the Senate and be signed by the president, but if it succeeds, the 108-year-old tradition of turning clocks forward in the spring and backward in the fall would cease. How do you feel about daylight saving time? Do you think this proposal should move forward?

  • As a member of the armed forces, I’ve lived in other countries and in a state that doesn’t have daylight saving. Of course, most countries can fit inside some of our states. — Eugenia Thornton
  • Keep it the way it is. What’s the big deal with changing the time twice a year? — Kevin McCarthy
  • I like longer daylight hours. — Dorothy Owens-Sciarra
  • Yes, it should have passed years ago. — Chuck Holliday
  • I am all for it and hope it finally gets passed. — Jill Usilton
  • I don’t care which, just pick one and stick to it. — Leslie Vinnedge Cournoyer
  • I say move all the clocks back an hour and lock all the clocks, to make standard time permanent all year-round in all of the United States of America. — Corwin Richardson
  • Just keep it the way it is and get on to more important issues in the world. It takes five minutes to set your clocks two times a year. — Roxanne Haley
  • I don’t care. — Ronald Sinclair
  • There are physical impacts to changing. just like when you travel. More importantly, during the school year, kids will be standing at bus stops in darkness, and that’s dangerous — not to mention trying to get them to go to sleep when it’s still light out. I vote for standard time all the time. — Nancy Mercante
  • Keep daylight saving time all year. — Robert Rinker
