RESPONSES TO QUESTION OF THE WEEK

What are your child care concerns?

Posted

Are you struggling with child care availability and/or costs? Do you feel that our area has accessible day care facilities for children of all ages? If not, how has your family adjusted? What can be done by the state to ease these needs?

  • Cost alone is a problem, if you can find availability! I lose employees often for lack of affordable child care and even care after school! — Lorraine Massey
  • My concern about child care is that I don’t have children, and I don’t think I should help pay for someone else’s children’s care. — Hank Vetta
  • There’s another concern: adult care. Nothing is affordable, and the safety of adults in some care facilities is very poor! — Howard Gaines III
  • I am very concerned whether I will be able to find quality day care for my newborn at a semiaffordable price. — Clint Brothers
  • The cost is generally high, and the availability of good day cares and early learning centers is lacking in Kent County. Then, when you get in to the better ones, you usually have a few times a year with one- to two-week gaps that you need to find coverage for. — Jonathan Contant
