FELTON - Wayne L. Platzke, of Felton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at Easton Memorial Hospital. He was 68. Mr. Platzke served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp. He retired after 20 years, from a successful and exciting career as a United States Marshal. In his spare time, he enjoyed wood working, golfing, fishing, and shooting. A fairly recent hobby of his included riding his three wheel Honda and taking time to unwind and enjoy the scenery. He enjoyed serving as a role model for kids throughout his life, and enjoyed being a mentor. Teaching life lessons to them was a priority for him, and if only one kid applied the lessons he taught, he felt it was all worthwhile. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father who was kind, giving, and selfless, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Platzke was a member of the American Legion of Denton, and the U.S. Marshal Historical Society. He was preceded in death by parents, Paul F. and Emma Mae Platzke Sr. Survivors include loving wife of 26 years, Karen J. Platzke of Felton; sons, Mason Frederick Platzke of Preston, Md., and Dwayne Joseph Platzke of Laurel, Del.; daughter, Brittany Jean Platzke of Felton; brothers, Paul F. Platzke Jr. of Skipwith, Va., Herbert Leroy Platzke of Skipwith, Va., and Joseph Brady Platzke of Skipwith, Va.; sister, Sondra May Jones of McGaheysville, Va.; and five grandchildren. Services will be noon, Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be two hours prior. Interment will be Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, Md. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, please visit www.kidney.org/support/ to give a donation.
