GALENA - Wayne L. Hoppers, 84 of Galena, formerly of Massey, MD, died Sept. 27, 2008, in Union Hospital, Elkton. Mr. Hoppers was born April 26, 1924, in Stratford, N.C., son of the late Emmett and Pearl Gambill Hoppers. He was raised in Pennsylvania and in 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in England where he met and married his wife. Upon his discharge they returned to Pennsylvania and in 1949 moved to Massey. He worked as a truck driver for Glennons Milk Service and later operated his own truck. Mr. Hoppers is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Savage Hoppers; three daughters, Anne Fitch and her husband Tom of Sevierville, Tenn., Nancy Quinn and her husband Anthony of Chesapeake City, and Kathy Cole and her husband Wayne of Massey; three sisters, Blanche Phipps, Mary Hash and Laura Jenkins, all of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Matthew Butterworth, Ashley Smoot, Seth Quinn and Kelsey Cole; and four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Justin and Nathan Smoot and Luca Butterworth. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 7 p.m.. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be held privately. Memorials may be offered to Sunbridge Care, Activities Fund, c/o Scott Hawley, 1 Price Drive, Elkton, MD 21921.
