Wayne J. Szefler

Wayne J. Szefler, 63 DOVER - Wayne J. Szefler, of Dover, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, Sept. 12, 2008. He was 63. Mr. Szefler was born Feb. 5, 1945, in Bayonne, N.J., to the late Joseph Szefler Sr., and Beatrice Miller Szefler. Mr. Szefler was a graduate of Newark High, class of 1963. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served as an Aviation Technician aboard the USS Intrepid, CV11, during the Vietnam Conflict. Following his naval service, he worked as a computer technician for IBM for 35 years, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed NASCAR, and football, especially the Philadelphia Eagles. Wayne was a devoted and loving husband, son, father and grandfather. He took care of his late father for the last eight years of his life, until his death in January. Mr. Szefler is survived by his wife of 39 years, Connie; two daughters, Sandy Szefler of Lewes, and Sheryl Hayes and her husband Ed of Milton; his brother, Joseph Szefler Jr., of Lewes; and three grandchildren, Michael Kelsall, Elizabeth Polite and EJ Hayes. Burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear. Arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover.
