GREENWOOD — A 27-year-old Greenwood man, who was being sought in connection with an exchange of gunfire with police, was found deceased in a camper at an undisclosed location in Maryland on Thursday.

Delaware State Police said Brian Holben was discovered with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers and other law enforcement agencies had been searching for Mr. Holben since a Wednesday traffic stop on Hickman Road in Greenwood resulted in the exchange of gunfire.

He had multiple warrants for his arrest at the time and fled from the scene on foot at approximately 9:27 p.m., police said.

An investigation led police to the camper in Maryland. Attempts were made to get Mr. Holben to surrender, but he barricaded himself inside the vehicle, authorities said. Further efforts to negotiate his surrender before entry were unsuccessful.
