DOVER - A 25-year-old Dover man sought after an alleged May 15 shooting in the Capital Green Development was arrested without incident in Elkton, Md. on Thursday morning, authorities said later in the day. Rakim Strickland, of the 600 block of River Road, was identified by police as a suspect shortly after an incident in an alley between Sussex Avenue and East Water Street, the Dover Police Department said.

Mr. Strickland was apprehended at the Hollingsworth Apartment Complex at approximately 6 a.m., police said, and is awaiting extradition to Delaware. The Delaware Fugitive Task Force and Maryland State Apprehension Unit took Mr. Strickland into custody, police said.

According to authorities, Dover PD received numerous calls reporting gunshots being fired in the Capital Green area at approximately 1:53 p.m. on May 15, and arrived to find a wounded 18-year-old man in the driver’s seat of a gold Dodge Intrepid. Charges include first-degree attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by person prohibited, possession of ammunition by person prohibited, first-degree trespass, and criminal mischief over $1,000. The investigation is ongoing and Dover PD said anyone with information can contact 736-7111. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips can also be submitted to law enforcement through tip lines maintained by Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online at www.tipsubmit.com. The alleged incident was part of an ongoing flurry of shootings within the city - nine since April 18, including three homicides.
