HARTLY- It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Walter Louis Weldon, on June 9, 2026, after a sudden illness at Bayhealth Kent Campus.

Walter began his firefighter career, serving his community, as a volunteer with Rescue Fire Hose Company No.1 at the age of 16. He received his GED. He was hired as a career City of Annapolis firefighter in 1971. He was promoted to Firefighter First Class in 1980. Walter retired December 31, 2006. Walter also worked as a surveyor helping to build the new span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. He also spent time driving an oil truck for Leitch Oil and painted part-time with Bucky Stokes and his brothers.

Walter married Karen Baker on November 21, 1986. They spent 41 loving years together, living in Dover and later settling in Hartly where they raised their children, Lauren and Shawn.
His family was his pride and joy, whom he loved with his whole heart. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and dear friends, near and far. Whether it was big family get togethers and Christmas parties, monthly luncheons with his firefighter brothers, or his regular phone calls. He was sure to let you know how much he loved you when it was time to say goodbye. He understood the value and fragility of life. He was a lover of all living things, and the great outdoors brought him so much peace. He was a member of Holden’s Chapel where he would keep the candy dish full for the kids and help however he could. He loved his church family who took him in right from the start and poured into him each and every week. Walter was known for his kind spirit, unconditional love, and servant heart.
