Walter was born on February 25, 1945 at Bremerton U.S. Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. He was born to the late Walter G. Sr. and Catherine T. McGinnis of Kenton, Delaware.
Walter graduated from Smyrna High class of 1963 and served in the Delaware Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969. He was also a member of the American Legion post #14 of Smyrna and Moose Lodge #534 of Harrington.
Walter was a long-distance truck driver for over 35 years; he drove for Sayre Vans, General Foods, Burris Foods, A.J. Williams, Playtex, and Delmarva Kenworth. His favorite saying was "I've been all over the United States and met a lot of damn nice people and also a few old soreheads, but when all is said and done I had a hell of a good time and seen a lot of places."
He enjoyed going to car shows and cruise nights in his 32 Ford pickup truck. Walter enjoyed Nascar racing, especially David Pearson and Davy Allison. His favorite sports team was the Phillies.
Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by Iris W. Woehlke, who was a very dear and loving longtime companion; Ralph M. and Muriel G. McGinnis (brother and sister-in-law); Susan C. McGinnis (niece); and Patrick J. McGinnis (nephew).
He is survived by Michael B. McGinnis and wife Jaimie L. McGinnis of Delaware (nephew); as well as Beverly Grey, Steven Farris, Jeremy Calderon, Catara Calderon: a very special family of Anchorage, Alaska.
A gathering of family and friends for Walter will be Friday, June 2 at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover from 6 to 8 PM.
