QUEEN ANNE, MD - Allen (Buster) Greiner, 73, died March 11, 2011, peacefully at his home in Queen Anne surrounded by his loving family. Allen was born April 8, 1937 at the family farm on Horse Shoe Road in Queen Anne. He enjoyed working on the farm and had several prize winning animals. He graduated Centreville High School in 1955. Attended the University of Maryland College Park where he earned his BS in Agriculture in 1961. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rheau Fraternity. He worked at the Peoples Bank & Trust Company in Wilmington, Del. Began his USDA career with Soil Conservation Service, then taught vocational agriculture at Easton High School from 61 - 68 after his student teaching in Sudlersville High School. He quit teaching and began his own business as Greiner Pools for seven years in Easton Maryland. He then went back to USDA, Rural Development, formerly Farmers Home Administration, where he was responsible for administration and oversight for the agency's loan and grant programs in field offices serving nine Maryland counties. After a brief retirement he went back to work as an Ag loan officer for CNB in Centreville from 1995 - 2000. He loved the outdoors, boating, fishing, crabbing, gardening and hunting. He was a very neat, meticulous and conservative man, to the point that his last home was built from the oak trees on his property. Everything always had to be cleaned before it was put away so that it would last many years. Many, many friends and often strangers would stop to get gardening advice. He loved to travel to his farm in West Virginia in the fall to hunt, watch nature and go four wheeling on the mountain roads. He was a past member of Hillsboro Methodist Church and Ruthsburg Community Club. He was past president of Ruthsburg Community Club. He is survived by his wife, Doris of 22 years; son, Bret and his life long friend Kathy Sadler of Tilghman; daughters, Karen Leonard and her husband Bobby of Tunis Mills and Traci Haas of Queen Anne. Grandchildren, Mitchell and Lindsay Hughes and Tyler Higdon. A sister, Charlotte Ann Booth of Queen Anne; and brother, Ralph E. Greiner of Ridgely; a nephew, Douglas E. Greiner of Ridgely; and his yellow lab "Missy". He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Greiner and Helen Porter Greiner,;a nephew Carl Booth; and great nephew Matthew Booth. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm, Tuesday, March 15, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Centreville, Md. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 with a viewing one hour prior. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
