Virginia Leone, 95
SMYRNA - Virginia Leone, of Smyrna, died Thursday, June 18, 2008, at Pinnacle Health Center, Smyrna. She was 95.
Virginia was born Feb. 20, 1913, in Huta, Poland, daughter of the late Matthew Gorna and Louise Kaminski.
She became a U.S. citizen shortly after her arrival in the United States.
Virginia was affectionately known to her friends and family as "Vergie."
She was educated in the public school system and after working several jobs in the Greensburg, Pa., area she met and married Joseph Leone, who is now deceased. Their marriage lasted 60 years.
She lived most of her life in the Greensburg area and then after becoming ill she moved to Dover to be with her daughter.
She was employed for many years at Joy Togs Manufacturing.
She enjoyed her time working in her garden, growing her flowers and canning her vegetables.
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Holly Jane Malago of Eustis, Fla.; her sister, Anne Gavinesky of Rittman, Ohio; and her brothers, Charles "Chuck" Gorna, Walter Gorna, Edward Gorna, Stanley Gorna and Joseph Gorna.
She is survived by her only child, Ruth Leone Malago, and a special son-in-law, Joseph E. Malago, of Dover; six grandchildren, Joseph J. Malago and his wife Kathy, Cherie (Malago) Butler and her husband David, Becky (Malago) Smith and her husband Donald, Wendy (Malago) Needham and her husband Erin and Matthew E. Malago and his wife Lisa; five great-grandchildren, Jason Malago, Donald Smith Jr., Melissa Smith, Emily Smith and Tarah Malago; one great-great-grandson, Chase Joseph Malago; two sisters, Blanche Pushic of Crabtree, Pa., and Helen Coumos of Tyrone, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Sue Leone of Greensburg; brothers-in-law, Jay Mangini of Greensburg and Rocky Leone of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Pantalone Funeral Home, 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg.
Burial will be in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
Local arrangements are by Michael J. Abmbruso Funeral Director, Dover.
