Violet Tribbitt Phelps, 93
Violet Tribbitt Phelps passed away peacefully at home in the early morning on December 22, 2022. She was born August 7, 1929, the third of seven children to Dolores Truax and James Thomas Tribbitt, Sr., at Smyrna Landing, Delaware.
As a youth, she lived in Woodland Beach, Leipsic, and Bowers Beach. She went to California after graduating from Goldey-Beacom College. She met her husband Donald E. Phelps, an Air Force crash boat crew member at Bowers in 1951.
Vi returned to Dover with her family in 1968 upon Don's retirement from the Air Force. Vi worked at Kent General Hospital in the 1970's as a medical transcriptionist until she retired in 1980. She loved watching operas, keeping abreast of world events, and was a voracious reader. She was loved by all who met her for her kindness and giving nature.
Her husband, Don, and a daughter, Carol, preceded her in death.
She is survived by a sister, Jean Failing of Dover, DE; a daughter, Donna Phelps of North Bowers Beach, DE; a son, David Phelps (Meg) of Waynesboro, PA; a grandson, Daniel Phelps (Jenn) of Rehoboth Beach, DE; a granddaughter, Melinda Bock (Dan) of Navarre, FL; five great grandchildren, Dylan, Lexi, Riley, Violet and Gwen; and nieces and nephews, Chuck Tribbitt (Lucy) of Milford, DE, Jiggs Failing (Wendy) of Hartly, DE, Robin Case of Felton, DE, Debbie Cooper of Dover, DE, Cheryl Precourt (Bill) of Dover, DE, Patrick Cooper of Bronx, NY and Lisa Warren (Raymond) of Felton, DE.
She will join her husband and daughter at Arlington National Cemetery with Torbert Funeral Home attending to her final arrangements. There will be no funeral services per her wishes.
